Hi, I’m Nina - a Watercolour Artist, certified Art Therapist (MA), highly sensitive person and the founder of Nyusikart School.
For many years I have been struggling with my high sensitivity, considering it my weakness, trying to turn it off. But I failed...
You know how it works: if you switch it off, you not only stop feeling intense pain, but unfortunately that simple joy also loses its colors and the world turns into shades of grey.
✦ 90+ hours of personal art therapy
✦ 110+ hours of group art therapy in which
✦ I have invested more than 10 000 € and 4+ years Postgraduate and Master studies in Relational Art Therapy (3 years)
✦ 13 years of watercolor techniques and style explorations
✦ 8 years teaching loose and spontaneous watercolor techniques worldwide, online and offline
✦ 4 years leading a painting group of a local mental health association
✦ 250+ hours conducted of art therapy sessions working with kids, teenagers and adults, including highly sensitive persons
Being myself highly sensitive, I have lived through all those stages that a highly sensitive person typically goes through and have reached the point where self-acceptance and my high sensitivity have turned into my strength in my life and on my spiritual journey.
I am guided in life by intuition, stopped trying to shrink in order to fit and be small, and finally feel confident to take my space in this world.

You may recognize yourself if…
Art therapy actively stimulates neuroplasticity—your brain’s ability to form new neural connections and reorganize itself. Studies show that creative expression increases synaptic density and activates emotional processing circuits. In other words, every time you pick up a brush, you aren't just making art; you are retraining your brain to process emotions more efficiently and become more resilient to stress.
The rhythmic, repetitive motion of brushwork has been proven to release serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin — your brain’s natural calming and bonding chemicals. Simultaneously, cortisol (your primary stress hormone) drops significantly. Research confirms that just 45 minutes of creative expression lowers cortisol levels in most participants, regardless of artistic skill.
According to Polyvagal Theory, simple creative acts — like letting a wet brush glide across paper — directly stimulate the vagus nerve and increase vagal tone. This helps shift your nervous system from a state of hyper-vigilance (sympathetic dominance) into a state of safety and rest (parasympathetic dominance). For an HSP, this means finally stepping out of constant sensory overload and into true inner safety.
Art therapy has been shown to reconfigure the brain's Default Mode Network (DMN) — the system responsible for self-referential thinking, rumination, and overthinking. In HSPs, the DMN is often hyperactive, leading to endless loops of worry and self-analysis. Creating art breaks this cycle, shifting your brain from an "overthinking" mode into a present-moment, experiential mode.
In depth psychology, water symbolizes the unconscious mind. Watercolour’s flow, bleed, and diffusion make it the ideal medium for accessing and expressing deep emotions that words cannot capture. Art therapy, at its core, is about using symbolic, creative expression to bring unspoken feelings, memories, and intuition to the surface — without needing to re-live trauma.

Research confirms that the therapeutic benefits of art are completely independent of skill level. Cortisol drops whether you are a beginner or a master. This is about the process, not the product.
Tangible neurological shifts happen quickly. You don't need hours — just 15 minutes of immersive creative flow is enough to begin regulating your nervous system. How much time do you spend scrolling?
Casual painting and intentional, therapeutic art-making are entirely different. When watercolour techniques are paired with art therapy guidance, it becomes a language for your subconscious, not just a hobby.
This approach is gentle and non-invasive. You are never forced to "talk about it" or relive pain. Instead, the paint moves for you, at your own pace, allowing emotions to surface only when you feel safe.
Neuroscience shows that creative expression changes brain activity and neurotransmitter levels immediately. You will feel the difference—calmer, more grounded, lighter—after your very first session.
High sensitivity is a neurobiological trait shared by 15–20% of the population. It is not a disorder to be fixed. Art therapy helps you re-frame it entirely — from "too much" into your greatest source of intuition and depth.

Many highly sensitive women become disconnected from their own needs, feelings, and intuition. Through simple creative practices, you'll learn to listen to yourself again and rebuild a loving relationship with who you truly are.
You don't need to become less sensitive. You need to understand how your sensitivity works and learn to support it. My courses help you move from overwhelm and self-doubt toward self-trust, inner peace, and confidence in being fully yourself.
